Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Farnham College
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts is for those wishing to train as an actor or performer for the stage.
You will develop all-round performance skills and transferable skills such as self-confidence, self-presentation, personal discipline, time management and organisational skills which are highly regarded by higher education and employers.
The units of study include:
- Investigating Practitioners’ Work
- Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance
- Group Performance Workshop
- Performing Arts in the Community
- Individual Performance Commission
- and Final Live Performance to an Audience.
You will also choose two optional units from a range of topics including: dance, theatre and signing.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths and English; or a Level 2 qualification at Merit or above.
46% external assessments – written and performance tasks, set and assessed by the exam board. 54% internal assessments – devising, rehearsing, performing, research and written tasks, set and assessed by your course teachers. There are no written examinations on this course. All written work is in the form of log books, portfolios and reports.
Theatre trips and visits (approx. £50 per year).
Drama schools, university drama or acting courses or employment as an actor, technician, teacher, arts administrator and many other career routes.
All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
