Further Mathematics - A-Level at Pendleton Sixth Form College
This course gives talented students the opportunity to have fun extending their mathematics knowledge by sampling some university-level material. It is also a modern mathematics course where the emphasis is on making maths relevant and interesting. This course is available as a full A level, or as an AS level done in either year of study.
In further maths you will study pure mathematics, decision mathematics, statistics and mechanics at a more conceptually advanced level than A level mathematics. The further mathematics group is usually a collection of high achieving, highly motivated and very able students. It allows the teacher to set a good pace and provide very challenging problems for you to solve. If you like mathematics and fancy a challenge, then this is definitely the course for you.
You would be expected to have 3 Bs/5s and 3Cs/4s at GCSE
Because of a crossover in content, this course cannot be studied alongside A-level computer coding
The course is assessed through written examinations (one for each module)
All full-time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are an EU citizen.
Many universities give reduced offers to students studying further maths, so you won’t need as high grades to obtain a place at a good university.
You will have a mentor who ensures the training fits your requirements and offers the skills needed for the job
