Physics A Level at Chilwell School

Course description

Our Physics students are interested in learning about how the universe works, everyday phenomena and technology. Whether you want a job in medicine or industry, Physics is the solid platform upon which careers are built. The topics you will learn include: Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics, fields and their consequences, Nuclear Physics, Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points in Physics and Electronics.

Universities and many employers appreciate the value of Physics and the subject is useful for progression to study a wide range of subjects at a higher level such as Medicine, Engineering, Computing and Music Technology.

Entry requirements

Additional entry requirements: Students will need a minimum of 2Bs in Science at GCSE including Physics and minimum Grade B GCSE Mathematics.


AS Assessment

  • Two 90 minute papers assessing the topics and relevant practical skills

A2 Assessment

  • Three 2 hour papers on the previous two year’s work
