Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (Light Vehicle) Diploma Level 3 at St Helens College

Course description

This specialist course is specifically designed for apprentices, enabling them to enhance their knowledge and skills previously gained at level 2.

You'll be learning the theory behind the practical elements of this course, understanding various diagnostic techniques and exploring engine and electrical faults.

Course content

Projects are exciting and innovative, including elements of research and academic writing. These creative projects will enable you to develop a personal style as well as enhance your specialist skills.

Entry requirements

You should have successfully completed a level 2 qualification.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.


You will be assessed by assignments, phase tests, completion of module packs and an e-portfolio, online exams and workshop practical assessments.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.

Future opportunities

This level 3 qualification is highly respected within the motor vehicle repair industry and should help any successful graduate of the course into employment.

There is also an opportunity to progress on to the level 4 IMI diploma in vehicle maintenance and repair principles.

Alternatively, you may choose to become an MOT tester and our ATA inspection accreditation will help you to achieve this.
