Health and Social Care Level 3 Diploma at Blackburn College

Course description

This Level 3 in Health & Social Care is equivalent to two A-Levels and is aimed at people wishing to pursue a career in Health or Social Care or progress onto an Access to Health Care Professions course at college. It provides a practical insight into a range of Health & Social Care related topics and will include a substantial amount of valuable work experience.

Course content

The course consists of 12 Health & Social Care units, which include:

  • Developing Effective Communication in Health & Social Care Settings
  • Equality, Diversity & Rights
  • Health, Safety & Security in Care Settings
  • Complementary Therapies
  • Psychological Perspectives in Health and Social Care
  • Maths & English*

Entry requirements

This qualification is recommended for those who have achieved four or more A*- C Grade GCSEs including English or have completed a BTEC First at Pass or Merit grade. You will also need a satisfactory police check (DBS).

Assessment

Assessment is via coursework. You will be assessed through assignment tasks and practical experiences. Assignments are based on real life scenarios that you would encounter in a health and social care setting and many of the tasks are directly linked to your work placement. Assignments are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Future opportunities

This qualification can lead into employment in a Health and Social Care setting, or students can progress on to an Access to Health Care Professions course at UCBC, or many students progress onto higher education.
