Engineering NVQ Level 2 at Colchester Institute

Course description

The Engineering NVQ Level 2 course has been designed to enhance your engineering skills, knowledge and understanding. You will study both electronic and engineering manufacture. It is a mainly practical course that will include a major project to link the subjects together.

This course is delivered through structured lectures, practical activities, student groups and personal tutorials. You will complete set assignments in a range of activities including key skill acquisition.

This programme has been specifically designed to provide an introduction to a broad base of engineering skills and principles to allow you to progress to a higher level study at Level 3. You will experience a range of different engineering principles and learn from exindustry experts through lectures, practical activities, group and personal tutorials. You will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

Course content

Engineering NVQ Level 2 Diploma

Subjects studied are a selection of the following:

  • Health and Safety
  • Using and Communicating Technical Information
  • Working Effectively in Engineering
  • Engineering Drawing
  • Turning and Milling
  • CNC Machining
  • CAD
  • Electronic Circuits
  • English, Maths and Progression into Industry

Entry requirements

Satisfactory completion of Engineering Level 1 and consent from the progression review board to continue.

Future opportunities

Successful students will be able to apply for an Apprenticeship, or progress to employment, whilst continuing their study via the day release programmes.

Students will normally progress to employment, an Apprenticeship programme or Welding and Fabrication Practice course.
