Product Design A level at Woodbridge High School

Course description

This course emphasises two key factors – creativity and sustainability. There will be opportunities to study, examine and propose high quality solutions that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants and needs, enhance our day-to-day lives and, most importantly, give students the opportunity to demonstrate their design innovation. Each solution will be the result of detailed research and the use of knowledge gained in this subject area.

Course content

The course is structured around four units of work, which consists of a combination of coursework and examined sessions based on both Product Design and Graphic Designs. Students will complete various design and make assignments and undertake a series of industrial visits.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Graphics Product or Product Design.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to progress on to university courses. There are also a wide range of Modern Apprenticeship and employment opportunities available in a variety of industries. Skills such as 3D and graphical design are in great demand. Careers in fields including advertising, product development, architecture, teaching, interior design and other media based areas are on offer to successful students. A qualification in this subject area will certainly be viewed as an asset for these candidates.
