BTEC Music at Holyhead
The BTEC Music course aims to give students a broad and vocational form of education in the music industry. The course aims to provide students with a balanced curriculum of music where students will not only develop their musical skills, but also develop the knowledge skills and understanding of different jobs in the music industry, including stage management, sound engineering, music events management and artist management.
Holyhead School aims to keep the course as authentic and vocational as possible, making sure that students are constantly learning in out of school contexts including performances at The Birmingam REP, South and City College, Victoria Square, as well as developing music engineering skills at the International Convention Centre and Grovenor Road Music Studios. Enrichment opportunities Students experience performing in local venues such as The ICC, Symphony Hall, Victoria Square, The Drum, The Birmingham REP, The MAC and many more. Students also develop their sound engineering skills at the ICC and Grosvenor Road Music Studios.
A passion for music and pop music culture. An interest in management, events organisation and sound engineering. Experience and ability to perform on a musical instrument. Experience in studying Music at KS4.
Unit 40 - Working and Developing as a musical ensemble
Unit 15 - Live Music Workshop
Unit 4 - Developing a Music product. Students studing the diploma in Music will study three additonal units. These units will be chosen according to the student's areas of strengths and skill each year.
A minimum of 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths
Merit BTEC Level 2 or Grade 4/5 on a musical instrument.
The assessment is 100% coursework.
The Level 3 Certificate is the equivalent of 1 GCE AS-level.
