Hospitality Diploma in Professional Food and Beverage Service - Level 3 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The course is designed for students who want to work in the hospitality industry in a ‘front of house’ capacity and at a supervisory level. Employment sectors could range between restaurants, hotels or general licensed premises. Students have the opportunity to work in the realistic working environment of the College’s ‘Waterside Brassiere’ which is open to the public. Here, students will develop their supervisory skills required by employers, to progress through the supervisory and managerial responsibilities in this industry sector.

Course content

You will complete a mixture of subject specific units, such as:- Supervising food and beverage service Supervising customer service Bar & cocktail service Supervising an event Cooking food in front of customers Marketing and promoting hospitality products Prepare and serve wines Provide advice to customers on food and beverage matching

Entry requirements

4 or more GCSE’s at grade D and above, to include a minimum of grade D in English (or equivalent) A Level 2 diploma in professional food and beverage service (or equivalent) A successful interview A satisfactory reference "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

The assessment on this programme will take the form of:- Practical observation (with appropriate witness testimony) Short online testing Externally set and externally marked assignments

Future opportunities

Past student have secured supervisory positions in employments within the industry. Others have progressed to the FdA in Hospitality Supervision.
