Sport BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course is designed to give learners the skills, knowledge and experience needed to improve physiologically and psychologically. Learners will gain an in-depth knowledge of the science behind sport and will take part in practical sessions. Learners will be challenged to reach the set progression criteria to allow them to progress and "top-up" to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in their second year of studying level 3.

Course content

Modules covered may include the principles of anatomy and physiology, fitness testing and training, sports nutrition, sports coaching and the analysis of sports performance (some of these may occur in year 2 of the study).

Entry requirements

Grade 4 (grade C) in English or Maths and a grade 3 (grade D) in the other.

Plus 2 other grade 4 (grade C) GCSEs, preferably in Science, and PE-based subjects.

Applicants must also demonstrate an enthusiasm for the industry in addition to an interest in sport and/or coaching and a keen motivation to learn.

Assessment

Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.

Future opportunities

Learners may take two routes upon completion of this course: either to go to work directly in the industry or to continue in education by applying for a university level course.

Personal tutors and staff will support both of these processes and we encourage all level 3 year 2 learners to generate a UCAS application as it maintains options for progression are as broad as possible.

How to apply

If you want to apply for this course, you will need to contact South Gloucestershire and Stroud College* directly.
