Barbering Diploma Level 2 at Boston College
This Barbering qualification is internationally recognised by City and Guilds. The course is based at the College’s hairdressing and beauty therapy department which has fully equipped salons open to the public. The course will develop existing hairdressing cutting skills and introduce new techniques required by the barbering industry.
This course consists of the following topics:
- Cut mens hair using basic techniques
- Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
- Dry and finish mens hair
- Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
- Advise and consult with clients
- Colour and lighten mens hair
In addition to your course, you will also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependant on your current GCSE grade.
You must have a recent Level 1 or Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing or equivalent.
You should also hold a good school or previous college report with a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade D or above (New GCSE grade - 3 or above) preferably in Maths, English and a Science.
Progression to Level 2 is dependant on minimum of 90% attendance, Successful completion of a Hairdressing Level 1 qualification, satisfactory report from all tutors, acceptable behaviour and attitude, ability to progress, ability to meet deadlines and successful selection at interview.
You will be required to attend an interview and possibly a trade test, and complete an assignment.
The course is based on an assessment structure therefore you will be continually assessed throughout the course. Assessments will cover practical applications, written assignments, online exams, oral questioning and a portfolio of evidence.
You will be expected to purchase a basic hairdressing equipment kit (£200 approx) which will include everything needed for practical lessons.
A materials fee of £40 needs to be paid at induction.
Tunic overalls are compulsory, you will be provided with an order form during induction (£20 approx)
Barbering head (£30 approx)
A suitable text book must be purchased to assist with the theoretical aspects of the course (£25.00 approx).
You will need lever arch A4 folders, dividers, plastic wallets and general stationery.
There are a number of educational visits arranged which you are encouraged to attend at a minimal cost, usually around £25.00 each trip.
A number of short courses are also arranged for you on this course and often a small fee is charged (these are optional extras).
Financial assistance can be gained from a means tested Bursary and Be Brilliant Foundation, this can be used against any of the additional costs.
