Hairdressing Apprenticeship Level 2 at Bedford College

Course description

To be accepted onto this programme you will need to be working full-time in a salon where you can gain the work based experience to support your training. This is a two year programme that covers the skills and knowledge needed to be a professional hairdresser. The course will equip you to offer a wide range of treatment to clients.

Entry requirements

You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job role and have 3 GCSEs A*-D.


Candidates are expected to cover small "in class" tests per unit of the qualification which carry a 100% pass mark only & are completed through computer-based testing. These cover all theory aspects/knowledge. All practical assessments are carried out in the salon environment and are watched by a qualified assessing staff member. During salon working hours, a work based assessor will make many visits to continue the assessment process.

Future opportunities

Progression from Level 2 to Level 3 Advanced Level Hairdressing or Barbering Apprenticeship. Into employment as a junior stylist or other job roles within hairdressing related Industries or to the Advanced Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies. Potential job roles: Junior Stylist carrying out treatments including basic cutting, styling, drying and finishing.

Further information

You will be required to pay for your uniform and equipment, approximate costs are: 2x practice block head - £45 each, industry related uniform of tunic and trousers - £46.99 and hairdressing kit - £140. Full details will be explained to you on application.

You will also need to be prepared to work on Saturdays, as most salons are closed on Sundays and Mondays. You will also be required to participate in the annual Hair & Beauty Show.
