Sport (Development, Coaching & Fitness) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Queen Mary's College
The 19 unit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This course can provide progression routes directly into employment, further training or onto Higher Education. The first year of the course will see students gain a 90 Credit Diploma, where, upon successful completion, they will progress onto the full Extended Diploma in their second year. In the second year students have the option to specialise in units related to either Teaching & Coaching or Fitness and Industry to support their future aspirations.
This is an intensive vocational course, which prepares students for a future in sport. Students require an interest in the subject and an enthusiasm to learn and get involved. To enhance the students experience we organise a number of guest speakers as well as trips and visits including Wimbledon, Twickenham and Chelsea FC as well as running additional sport specific awards including FA Level One and LTA Level 1 Tennis Assistant. Students may also opt to study a sports based enrichment course to compliment their qualification such as Higher Sport Leaders Award, Level 2 Fitness Instructor Certificate or National Pool Lifeguard.
Units studied include: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport; The Physiology of Fitness; Assessing Risk in Sport; Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise; Fitness Training and Programming; Sports Coaching; Sports Development; Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise; Practical Team Sports; Practical Individual Sports; Sports Nutrition; Current Issues in Sport; Leadership in Sport; Exercise, Health and Lifestyle; Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise; Psychology for Sports Performance; Physical Education and the Care of Children and Young People; Sport as a Business.

Continuously assessed through assignment work (written, presentations, practical performances, group work). Each unit graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, the highest grade on the Diploma being D*D*D*.
