BTEC Diploma in Engineering at The Highcrest Academy
Students studying engineering will understand how to apply theory and practice and be able to make informed decisions about their future. The qualification introduces students to some of the key themes of Engineering and gives them an understanding of basic Engineering principles.
The Diploma and BTEC:
- Equips students with essential skills to prepare them for work and continuing education
- Is a challenging qualification valued both by industry and education
- Provides flexibility and choice and gives students a variety of study options
Students also develop a good standard of English, Maths and information communication technology, as well as other skills such as teamwork and self-management.
Students at The Highcrest Academy can expect to produce several practical projects in a range of resistant materials. One example is a steel tool box which helps students to develop accuracy in marking out, cutting and assembly.
Students as part of the Diploma and BTEC are required to produce their own personal project which demonstrates practical skills learned as well as skills in research and design. This element of the course can also be taken as a standalone half GCSE qualification.
Students must have achieved 5 A*-C grades including Maths & English at a C or above.
