Dance BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at The Astley Cooper School

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma gives you an understanding and training of the skills needed to succeed in dance and the dance industry. You will study various different dance styles and genres whilst exploring the technique, stylistic qualities and performance skills of each style. You will develop a greater understanding of dance through the study of dance appreciation and choreography developing the skills needed to develop a career in dance. The course is taught with a vocational context allowing an insight into the dance industry and the different career paths that are available to you.

Assessment

The course consists of two core units and four optional units. All units consist of both practical and theory work. Assessments will take place during class and performance opportunities, with the written portfolios assessed internally by your tutor. There are no written examinations.

Future opportunities

You can study this course as part of the larger performing arts qualification adding extra performing arts based units to your learning to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts which is the equivalent of 2 A-Levels.

This course will provide you with the level of skill required to pursue dance at a higher level. It may also lead to employment with the dance sector.

Further information

This course is ideal for students who have an interest in dance and the performing arts industry. Some prior knowledge and ability in dance would be beneficial and an enjoyment of performing is essential. The course is the equivalent of one A-Level.
