Plastering Occupations (Solid) - Level 3 Apprenticeship at Middlesbrough College
Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes Apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an Apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within the College. Plastering Occupation Apprentices work towards a work-based NVQ qualification in addition to the nationally recognised Construction Diploma. Areas to be covered:- Knowledge Based Qualification (Level 3 Diploma in Plastering (Solid) You will study theory and practical sessions. Example of General core units:- Knowledge of Information, Quantities and Communication with Others Building Methods and Construction Technology Carryout Safe Working Practices in Construction Prepare for and Board and Set a Ceiling Apply Plaster to a Curved Wall / Cornice Apply Plaster Materials to Produce Complex Internal Surfaces Fix Dry Lining and Plaster Board Products to Interiors Produce Plaster Components Competence Based Qualification (Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plastering) General core units:- Conforming to General Safety in the Workplace Confirm Work Activities and Resources Develop And Maintain Good Working Relationships Confirming the Occupational Method of Work Example of Optional units:- Producing Complex Internal Solid Plastering Finishes Producing Complex External Rendering Finishes Installing Mechanically Fixed Plaster Board Producing / Installing Complex Plasterwork Moulds and Components Producing Specialised Plaster Surfaces English and Maths up to Level 2 Maths English Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) The Apprentice National Minimum Wage applies to all 16 to 18 year old Apprentices and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If the Apprentice is aged 19 and / or has completed the first year of their Apprenticeship, the employer must pay the National Minimum Wage appropriate for their age. No specific academic requirements but employment as a trainee in Plastering Occupations is essential. Applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment to determine their current learning level. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
The NVQ is assessed through work-based evidence compiled as an electronic portfolio. The Diploma is assessed on practical assignments, unit end tests and an online exam.
At the end of the programme Apprentices will have achieved the Construction Skills NVQ Level 3 in Plastering Occupations and the Construction Skills Level 3 Diploma in Plastering (Solid). Apprentices will also have the opportunity to complete English and Maths that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation and problem solving. On completion of the Plastering Occupations Apprenticeship at Level 3, Apprentices can go into other industrial occupations, building supervisory and management roles within the Construction Industry.
