Computing/ICT- Level 1 Diploma in Digital Applications (for students aged 14-16) at Wakefield College

Course description

This course is a set of qualifications which promote the creative use of digital applications through an approach which will inspire and challenge you to demonstrate what you know and what you can do. 
 

Course content

What you will study

The course enables you to produce quality digital content. The qualification will develop your ability to organise yourself and your work and encourage you to reflect critically on the use of ICT.
 
The qualifications you’ll complete include:
developing web products
creative multimedia
graphic art and design
coding
 
 
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.
Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study
 

Entry requirements

Predicted grades 3-9 in 3 subjects at GCSE
AND
Minimum Entry Level 3 in English and Maths or equivalent
AND
A genuine interest in the subject/profession
AND
A good reference from Head of Year 10 or Headteacher

Assessment

Assessment is through submission of e-portfolios and paper-based assignments for each unit.

Future opportunities

Further study

You can go on to study the Level 2 Diploma in ICT or other Level 2 programmes. Skills in digital applications provide a wide range of career options, as well as a route into further and higher education.
