Bench Joinery - Diploma Level 3 at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to set out and manufacture items using advanced bench joinery skills as well as modern bench practice and techniques as well as developing wood work machinery skills. You will learn and practice a range of advanced hand skills required for working with timber including the use of hand and power tools. Some learners from the course will be chosen to represent the college at local and national skills competitions.

Course content

Advanced setting out techniques Project management Manufacture of bespoke joinery items Introduction to curved joinery items Set up and use fixed wood working machines Group projects throughout the academic year

Entry requirements

This course is designed for students who have previously completed bench joinery level 2 and are interested in developing advanced technical hand skills in bench joinery. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

Ongoing assessment will take place throughout the course with a strong emphasis on practical skills. There are also a number of short theory tests and a multiple choice on-line exam as part of the assessment process.

Employment as a Bench Joiner or access to H.E.
