Mathematics A level at Eckington School

Course description

At mathematics AS level, the two compulsory units are pure core 1 and pure core 2. The optional unit is mechanics 1.  These units provide all the usual mathematical techniques needed in many other subjects  the algebra and trigonometry of GCSE are extended and calculus is introduced.

Students who continue to A2 level will study another three modules for A2 mathematics.  At mathematics A2 level, pure core 3 and pure core 4 are compulsory. Statistics 1 is the optional unit.


Assessment: The first three modules are assessed in the first year leading to the AS qualification. Three more modules are assessed in the second year leading to the full A2 level qualification. All six modules are equally weighted and count towards the qualification.
