Foundation Studies (Level 1) at Palmer's College

Course description

This foundation level course will enable you to build on the skills and knowledge you already have to gain a qualification that will give you access to a range of careers and further education opportunities.

Course content

You will study for a Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Vocational Studies which allows you to try elements from different BTEC qualifications as tasters for further study.
This may include:
• Preparing for employment
• Understanding your learning and  recognising your strengths
• Managing your money
• Taking part in exercise and fitness
• Planning a trip
• How the body works
• Customer service in retail
• Using IT

The course will also involve working towards functional skills qualifications in Maths.


Entry requirements

This course is suitable for students who have achieved mainly E, F and G grades in their GCSEs, have studied BTECs at entry grade or who have no formal qualifications.


Future opportunities

Many of our students progress on to a Level 2 course such as the BTEC First Diploma in Business, alternatively you can progress to work based training such as a pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship or employment.
