Travel and Tourism Level 2 at Bradford College

Course description

Travel and Tourism is now one of the largest sectors in the world in terms of generating jobs and income. It is a dynamic and vibrant sector which makes a major contribution to the UK economy with many different industries forming part of it. Currently there are more than two million people employed in tourism in the UK, so there are lots of opportunities for you to find a rewarding career in the industry, either at home or overseas.

This one year course has been designed to meet the needs of those who want to work in the travel and tourism industry, for example: holiday centres, tour operator companies, travel agencies, cruise line companies or conference events organisations.


The course will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the travel and tourism sector.


Many of the course Units will be delivered together with all students; however you will have the flexibility to choose your own study route for part of the course to help your progression in either the retail or business travel sector.


Study Route 1 is designed to relate to working in the retail environment and business travel; Study Route 2 comprises Airfares & Ticketing and Global Distribution Systems.

  • Interpersonal Skills for the Travel Workplace
  • Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality, Leisure and Travel & Tourism
  • Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations
  • Customer Service & Selling Skills for Travel & Tourism
  • Retail Travel Services
  • Visitor Attractions
  • Resort Representatives
  • Travel Planning.

A work placement in Travel & Tourism will form part of your programme.

City & Guilds qualifications are designed as a vocational route into employment and these do not provide UCAS points, unlike BTEC qualifications which are required if you wish to follow the academic route into university.

Bradford College offers a Higher Education programme endorsed by Teesside University and if you achieve at Merit or higher on a Level 3 City & Guilds course, you will be eligible to apply.

Entry requirements

You must be keen and interested in the travel industry and have successfully completed a Level 1 travel related course or have or GCSE English and mathematics at a minimum of Grade D.


Your coursework will be internally assessed and there will be some online tests.
