Course description

The course aims at developing understanding of the spoken and written word, communicating confidently and clearly, developing a critical insight into, and contact with, the contemporary society, cultural background of the country of the language studied

Course content

How will the course be taught?  

The fully integrated course involves a multi-skill approach to speaking, listening, reading and writing.  Language activities are very varied and include such exercises as role-play, reporting tasks, discussions, interviews and games.  Students are strongly advised to pay an extended visit to the country

Unit 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing

70% of AS

35% of A2

2 hour written examination – 110 marks

Unit 2 – Speaking test

30% of AS

15% of A2

35 minutes speaking test

(including 20 minutes preparation) – 50 marks


Unit 3 – Listening, Reading and Writing

35% of A2

2 hours 30 minutes written examination – 110 marks

Unit 4 – Speaking test

15% of A2

35 minutes speaking test (including 20 minutes preparation) – 50 marks
