Art and Design BTEC Level 3 at Harris Academy South Norwood
Sometimes due to other course commitments, students are not timetabled for enough Art classes to fulfil 720 hours over the two years to do the Diploma in Vocational Art. When this happens students are usually entered for a Subsidiary Diploma. This is 360 hours over the two years, and is equivalent to one GCE A Level. Students on the Subsidiary Diploma study with those on the Diploma, and follow the same assignments.
Students require a Merit grade in Level 2 Art and Design, or a grade C in Art GCSE.
There are no exams, as it is all based on coursework.
Progression to Higher Level courses in Art and Design is normally through application to a foundation course at Art College, before applying to a degree course in a specialist area. Studying Art and Design for its own sake develops transferable skills, which can take you into employment. Success at this level requires determination and dedication.
Future Pathways include: Graphic Design; 3D Design (for example ceramics); Fashion, Fine Artist, Illustrator.
