Level 3 Diploma Sport and Physical Activity Development at Leeds West Academy
This course is ideal for young people who have a passion for Sport and Physical Activity. Over two years, the course produces young people who will be ready for higher education or employment. The course covers various aspects of sport, including Biology in Sport, Coaching, Physiotherapy, Teaching and Fitness Testing. Exciting opportunities include: primary school visits to improve leadership and coaching skills; visits to Leeds Beckett University to utilise fitness testing equipment used by elite Olympic performers; organising and leading Year 7 residentials and a week-long sport related work experience placement. BTEC sport students benefit from having strong links with Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Cricket Club. The majority of the course is theory based but there are opportunities for practical activity.
This is a double qualification and takes the place of two options in the timetable.
Whilst students do not need to have previously studied sport academically, a level 2 qualifi cation in sport would be benefi cial (GCSE PE at 4 or above or BTEC sport at a Merit or above). An interest in sport development, fitness and coaching is required. Students are also required to achieve a Grade 4 in English/Science GCSE.
