Horse Management BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Cannock Chase High School

Course description

This course develops the student’s knowledge, understanding, skills and application of equine studies and horse management. This course would be suitable for those with a keen interest in horse care and riding and who may wish to pursue a career in the exciting equine industry. 

Course content

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma consists of the following SIX units: 

•      Understand and Promote Animal Health

•      Select, Fit and Evaluate Horse Tack and Equipment

•      Prepare and Provide Care for Competition Horses

•      Riding and Exercising Horses

•      Understand the Principles of Equitation

•      Contribute to Managing an Equine Event 

Entry requirements

A*-C grade in 1 Science at GCSE 

Assessment

Assessment is coursework based, both practical and theoretical, so learners must feel confident working around horses. The practical riding unit is completed during independent study through video assessment methods either on the learner’s own horse or through riding lessons. 

Future opportunities

Following the course, learners could go into further education in horse care/management such as Level 3 Extended Diploma, or go straight into a career in the equine industry such as working at a racing yard, competition yard or stud yard.
