Law A Level at Langley Park School for Boys

Course description

The course covers a variety of aspects of Law: the sources of Law, the structure of courts, the personnel of the Law, importance of liability in the areas of crime and negligence, and the sanctions and remedies available to the courts.

Course content

- The nature of law and the English Legal System.
- Criminal Law.
- Tort Law.

Entry requirements

Good communication skills, the ability to solve problems by applying legal rules to factual situations and the ability to present a logical and coherent argument.

B in a Humanity, or a Grade 5 in either GCSE English Language or English Literature.

Assessment

Paper 1: The nature of law and the English Legal System and Criminal Law Examination, a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions, 1 hour 30 minutes. 50%

Paper 2: The nature of law and the English Legal System and Tort Law Examination, a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions, 1 hour 30 minutes. 50%

Future opportunities

Obviously this can lead, ultimately, to a career in the Legal Profession. However, the skills that students will develop are transferable to other areas such as Administration, Journalism, the Civil Service and the Police.
