Dance A level at The Rodillian Academy

Course description

If you have a passion for Dance you will love this subject. Throughout the course you will develop your knowledge of dance practice and build your skills as a performer and choreographer. You will be given the opportunity to see professional live dance performance work and perform as part of the college dance company.

What is the course content?

 

Year 12:

Practical

·         Choreography and performance of a solo dance

·         Performance in a duet/trio

           Theory

·         Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of two areas of study. One is compulsory and one is optional from a choice of four.

·         The reflection and understanding of own choreographic and performance practice.

The exam is in three sections Section A is short answer questions on own practice. Section B is short answer questions on the compulsory area of study and Section C is two essay questions on both areas of study.

 

Year 13:

Practical

·         Choreography and performance that is linked to a specific practitioner within an area of study

·         Performance in a Quartet

·         Group Choreography

 

Theory

·         Critical engagement

The exam is in two sections Section A is short answer questions and Section B is two essay questions that focus on the second set work

AS

Practical exam (80 marks) =  50%

This is marked by an external assessor from AQA

Written exam (80 marks) = 50%

 

A Level

Future opportunities

You will gain experience to study further at dance conservatoires and universities for a degree in dance or related subject. This subject will also provide you with a solid foundation of critical and analytical skills which will complement other subjects.
