Psychology A Level at John Masefield High School

Course description

Students will have the opportunity to take an AS or A level in Psychology. The course content for AS and the first year of A level will aim to develop students broad knowledge and understanding of the core areas of Psychology. During their second year, students studying A level will engage in issues and debates in Psychology as well as studying, in-depth, a number of key topics.

Course content

Externally assessed written examination on: Memory, Attachments and Social Influence, Psychopathology

Externally assessed written examination on: Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Research Methods

Externally assessed exam on: Issues and debates, Relationships, Eating Behaviour, Aggression

Entry requirements

Minimum: Grade C (new grade 5) in Maths, English and Biology [or Science] to take A level Psychology.

Future opportunities

Psychology professions e.g. Clinical Psychologist, Sports Psychologist or Educational Psychologist. Any people- centred career eg Teaching; Counselling; Retail Trade or Management.
