Product Design at Holyhead

Course description

A Level Product Design enables you to combine your knowledge and skills of GCSE Product Design or Resistant Materials with new technologies, software packages and 3D manufacturing processes. Product Design is in everything we see and use.

This course will give you a deeper insight to ergonomics, anthropometrics and social design. You will develop existing Computer aided design skills to draw and make your own two and three dimensional creations.

Skills Needed

A passion for social Design and sound knowledge of Material characteristics, Manufacturing processes and confident software skills/applications.

Year 1

Unit 1 - Materials, Components and Applications . 

Unit 2: Learning Through Designing & Making.

Entry requirements

5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths

Grade B in GCSE in Resistant Material or Product Design

Assessment

Year 1

Four units in total each worth 25% of final grade. Two units each year, one of each is coursework and an exam.

Unit1 - There is a 2 hour examination worth 25% of the final grade.

Unit 2 - Learning Through Designing and Making coursework portfolio.Coursework is 25% of the final grade.
