Childcare and Education Level 3 at Northampton College

Course description

This qualification is designed to help students build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 7 years. The course covers a variety of units giving an in-depth understanding of the health and education needs of children including the Early Years Foundation Stage. The method of learning is by a mixture of classroom based activity and work placements. The CACHE Level 3 Diploma gives the student a broad educational foundation for employment and careers in many areas within Early Years. You will spend 2 days a week in a work placement, building up a Personal Placement Record, plus block weeks.

Course content

All those who wish to work at an unsupervised level in the childcare workforce or wish to progress to Higher Education.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics or CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children and Young People's Workforce at Pass Grade plus GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C.


It will be internally and externally assessed by a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.
