Biology AS Level at Riverside College Halton

Course content

The study of life on earth is both fascinating and popular. This course is devoted to exploring ourselves and our impact on the natural world; you will explore how living things function and you will investigate how the human body works. You will also conduct practical investigations that will look at issues such as pollution, genetic engineering and biotechnology.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A - C GCSE subject passes to include English language and maths and 2 grade Bs including a B in double award science or B in single science (Biology).

Assessment

You will produce one piece of coursework based on a practical investigation in each year. You will also be required to sit examinations in year one and year two.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto a BA Hons degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Forestry, Marine Biology, Veterinary Science or Agriculture. Following this you could enter employment as a laboratory technician, teacher or within your chosen medical profession.
