Below you will find some information regarding the A-Level Government and Politics course. Please note that there are some entry requirements for this course.

Course content

This A-Level is designed to develop a critical awareness of the nature of politics and the relationship between this and the institutions in society. You will cover the following:
At AS:
 Unit 1 explores the role of People and Politics looking at what Politics is, what Political Parties are and what role Pressure Groups have in our system.
 Unit 2 goes on to look at how the UK is governed where work focusses on the roles of Parliament and the Prime Minister
 Both these units involve a exam paper taken at the end of Year 12.
At A2:
 The focus of work in Year 13 will centre on the study of systems, personalities and ideologies of American Politics.
 There will be two units of study and again both are examined externally.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of five A* - C grades, including Maths and English to access this course. You should consider that this course requires good essay writing and debating skills.

Politics plays a crucial role in society, and this will help you explore how the different political systems work. It is a fascinating subject that will see you developing a deeper understanding of the Government, and discover more about what a career in politics may look like.
You will undertake a wide range of research, and this subject is crucial if you are considering undertaking Politics at university. However, it will also support other related subjects such as History or Media.
