English GCSE Resit at Helston Community College
If you have not obtained a Grade C in GCSE English, then you will need to follow a GCSE re-sit or Literacy course as part of your Post 16 studies. English is considered essential by universities, most employers and apprenticeship providers. New legislation requires post-16 students to keep taking GCSE English and Maths until you get a C grade. If you do not have the grade, you will find a lot of course and career opportunities closed to you.
Five pieces of controlled assessment:
- Three responses to reading
- Two pieces of creative writing
- Three speaking and listening assessments: you will be given a separate grade for speaking and listening
You should, ideally, have a D at GCSE and be willing to work hard.
Through the controlled assessments outlined above, and through one exam, testing reading and writing skills. The exam will be at the end of the year in the summer series.
A Grade C in English is an essential requirement for entry to a great number of jobs as well as Higher Education courses and apprenticeship providers.
