Fine Art AS/A2 Level at East Berkshire College

Course description

 

The course divides clearly into two units. Two units are completed during AS and the further two are completed during A2.

AS level is both a 'stand-alone' qualification and also the first half of an A Level. The full A level may be taken over 2 years - or in one year if you have suitable previous experience.

The course is based in Fine Arts mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed media.

The A2 units consist of 2 units, continued from AS - units 3 & 4.

 

 

Course content

AS Level

Unit one, coursework portfolio: painting, media, colour theory, exploration, research and acquisition of techniques and skills.

Unit 2 controlled assignments: work towards your exam. Your tutor will work with you on an individual basis.

A2 Level

Unit 3, personal investigation: research and investigation into a chosen area of study, alongside practical work. This unit must include a related personal study between 1000 - 3000 words.

Unit 4, controlled assignment: working towards the end of year practical exam.

Entry requirements

Applicants will need five GCSEs at grade C or above including an art & design, or equivalent experience in painting and drawing.

Assessment

Studio practice and personal research. Assessment is by coursework, practical assignments and end of year exam.

Future opportunities

  • A second year of study will allow you to complete the full A Level and progress to Higher Education or Art & Design Foundation Course.
  • Following progression to H.E. a career in art education or a career as an art practitioner could be followed.
