Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Plumstead Manor School

Course description

You will develop knowledge and understanding of theatre practitioners and playwrights. You will explore their methods practically and critically analyse them. You will perform in both a group piece from a script and a monologue. You will be able to critically evaluate live theatre and understand how the production values contribute to their performance. Course content

AS Unit 1-  Exploration of Drama and Theatre - explore two plays and review a play

AS Unit 2-  Theatre Text in Performance - perform as an ensemble in a play and perform either a monologue or a duologue for an external examiner

A2 Unit 3- Devising Theatre - create a play based on an exciting and relevant social topic

A2 Unit 4- Theatre Text in Context - direct a play and respond to historical context of a play

  • As an Actor, you will develop the vocal and movement skills that impact on the range of characters you are able to perform.
  • As a Designer, you will root your ideas about set, lighting and costume firmly in a concept that communicates the impact of the plays social, cultural, historical and political context.
  • As a Director, you will lead your actors through a series of rehearsals based on your own vision of a set text, as well as compare the performance of a Shakespeare play with its original performance conditions.

Shelby Allen-Ankers was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. Shelby gained a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, and took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. With a C grade, and also qualifications in BTEC Events Management, the Extended Project and A Level Geography, Shelby has just started a B.A. (Hons) in Dance at the University of Bedford.

Grace Windsor was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. Grace gained a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, and took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. With a B grade, and also A Levels in English Literature and History, plus AS Drama, Grace has just started a B.A. (Hons) in Dance at the University of Kingston-upon-Thames.

Ann Kaewangchai was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. After gaining a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, Ann took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. Gaining a C grade, and with a Distinction for Level 3 BTEC Music, and A Level Photography, Ann is in her second year at Middlesex University, studying for a B.A. (Hons) in Dance Performance.

Rae Dawson was a Plumstead Manor School student from Year 7 to 13. After gaining a Distinction* for BTEC Dance, Rae took A Level Dance in Plumstead Manor 6th Form. Gaining a C grade, and with A Levels in Drama and English Literature, she is currently studying for a B.A. (Hons) in Dance in the Community at Manchester Metropolitan University. Rae recently returned to assist in the dance session at Plumstead Manor’s Year 6 into 7 Summer School.

Sixth Form Dress Code

All students are expected to wear business dress that would be appropriate in an office or business environment. This is a privilege extended to Sixth Formers and is a recognition as a transition to adulthood and as your status as Senior Members of the school.
