Course description

Why study Business

● gain an holistic understanding of business in a range of contexts.

● develop a critical understanding of organisations and their ability to meet society’s needs and wants.

● understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives.

Course content

Paper 1: Marketing, people and global business.

Questions will be drawn from Themes 1 and 4, and from local, national and global contexts.

 

How is it assessed:

Written examination

The paper comprises two sections - Sections A and B each comprise one data response question broken down into a number of parts.

 

Duration: two hours.

100 marks available.

 

Externally assessed.

35% of the total qualification.

 

Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy.

Questions will be drawn from Themes 2 and 3, and from local, national and global contexts.

 

How is it assessed:

Written examination

The paper comprises two sections.

Students answer all questions from both sections.

Sections A and B each comprise one data response question broken down into a number of parts.

 

Duration: two hours.

100 marks available.

 

Externally assessed.

35% of the total qualification.

 

Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment.

The paper comprises two sections.

Students answer all questions from both sections.

 

For Paper 3, there will be a pre-released context document.

How is it assessed:

Written examination.

Sections A and B each comprise one data response question broken down into a number of parts.

 

Duration: two hours.

100 marks available.

30% of the total qualification.

 

Entry requirements

Min grade 6 in English and Maths

 

Future opportunities

On completion of this qualification students will have developed the skills, knowledge and understanding, which will prepare them for entry into higher education or employment. Students can continue with their study of business or related subjects at degree level, seek training or enter employment.
