History at Bishop Luffa School

Course description

You will develop your ability to evaluate and analyse information, to weigh up evidence and to communicate complex ideaseffectively. These skills are recognised and valued by employers, universities and colleges. Many students choose tocontinue their history studies at degree level. You will also have an excellent foundation for many careers including journalism, law and business. This is illustrated by the amount of students who are able to get onto these very popular courses.

AS Level
AS History is made up of two units. Both are externally assessed (exams)

  • Unit 1 British History Period Studies: Britain 1918-51. One essay-based exam of 90 minutes.
  • Unit 2 European and World History. Enquiries: Dictatorship & Democracy in Germany 1933-63. One source-based examof 90 minutes.
    A2 Level
    A2 History is made up of two units. One being coursework and the other exambased.
  • Unit 3 Historical Interpretations and Investigations: Russian Revolutions 1894- 1924. Two 2000 word pieces of coursework.
  • Unit 4 Historical Themes: Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992. One essay-based exam of 2 hours.

  • Entry requirements

    Grade B in GCSE History is generallyrequired for entry onto the AS course.
