Heavy Vehicle Technician Intermediate Apprenticeship *Fees Payable* at Martec Training

Course description

Heavy vehicle service technicians service and repair large vehicles such as lorries, trucks and coaches. If you are technically minded this could be just the course for you. You will learn how to carry out routine vehicle maintenance, how to remove and replace engine and auxiliary units and components, how to contribute to good housekeeping and maintain positive working relationships and reduce health and safety risks.The best foundation for a career as a heavy vehicle mechanic is through an apprenticeship. You will learn, train and earn at the same time with much of your practical experience coming from supervised work in the garage itself. You will attend our technical college at Martec training on day release to obtain your underpinning knowledge.Like all Vocational training, the qualification is competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will plan a programme of development and assessment with an assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence and knowledge.

Entry requirements

Ideally grade C or above in GCSE English, Maths and ICT or Level One Literacy and Numeracy. A basic skills assessment will take place when you come into Martec training.

Future opportunities

Progression onto an Advanced Apprenticeship is possible after completion depending on individual ability.
