Vocational Studies (Arts and Media) BTEC Level 1 Extended Certificate at Newcastle-under-Lyme College
The course aims to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to begin to explore career opportunities within the arts and media industry. You will gain a qualification to enable you to progress to the Level 2 programme and you will develop personal skills which can be used later in all forms of employment. The course also focuses on improving learners' skills in maths and English. This one year course will cover units in Drawing and Painting, Exploring Drawing and Using a Variety of Multimedia Techniques.
You will need a minimum of one GCSE at grade D or above and be aged between 16 and 23 years old at the start of the course.
You must pass all units to gain the Extended Certificate. To pass each unit you will produce a portfolio of evidence including a range of written assignment work, presentations, project work, group work and practical-based assessments.
Newcastle Maintenance Allowance (NMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.
Having successfully completed this course you could progress to the BTEC Level 2 in Arts or go on to do other further education courses. If you feel that you have the ability to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in this industry then this is the course for you.
