Design and Technology (Product Design) A Level at Pensby High School

Course description

There are two modules in each of the AS and A2 courses. In order to complete the AS course the two units are Materials, Components and Application and a Coursework module. The aim is for you to develop an understanding of a broad range of materials, with emphasis on the life cycle of products, manufacture and disposal. The coursework is a design and make project.

Course content

In order to complete the A2 qualification the units are Design and Manufacture and Coursework. At A2, you should further develop knowledge and practical skills from AS. Students will continue to develop a body of coursework alongside an understanding of the processes and procedures of commercial production and manufacture.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE Design and Technology. The subject could be Resistant Materials, Food or Engineering.

Assessment

The units of work are assessed internally through coursework and externally through examination.

Future opportunities

Wishing to progress to University place or job vocational in Product Design or Engineering.
