Physics A Level at Lincoln Castle Academy
‘AS/A2’ Physics is the study of the physical world, from the microscopic to the macroscopic! Understanding this is increasingly important in our growing technological society. The laws and concepts of Physics help us understand the world around us, and applications of Physics are made use of widely in everyday life, in medicine and in industry. Analytical, mathematical, problem solving, practical, communication skills will all be used in the study of ‘A’ Level Physics. Physics can be taken in combination with any other subject but works particularly well with Mathematics, the other Sciences, Languages and Psychology.
Candidates for Physics should have achieved 'A*A*', 'AA' or 'BB' in GCSE Core and Additional Science with the separate GCSE Physics at a 'B' ideally. Candidates for Physics are also required to take an ‘A’ Level in Mathematics, and will not be allowed to start the course without this being on their timetable. BTEC Science grades should be at least a ‘Merit’, with the strongest performance being in the Physics unit.
The ‘A’ Level Physics course is an excellent preparation for anyone wishing to study Physics or a related degree at university. It is also essential for other science and technology degrees such as Engineering, and useful for the Medical Sciences. In addition, it provides a very good general preparation for employment, since success at ‘A’ Level Physics shows that you are a logical and coherent thinker, with practical and problem solving skills.
