Government and Politics A Level at Bedford Academy

Course description

A Level Government and Politics allows you to explore your own understanding of our political system and compare it to other countries'. You will be able to evaluate the UK political organisation and develop your own political ideology. This cours allows you to develop your understanding of current aggairs and political systems but also develops your ability to synthesise and interpret information, to analyse and evaluate knowledge, to identify connections and similarities and to select relevant material and construct coherent arguments.


Course content

You will learn about the nature of participation in the political process and in voting; different electoral systems and different political parties and about pressure groups and protest. You will learn about the British constitution and our Parliament, the Core Executive and other levels of governance. You will also learn about different global political ideologies including liberalism, socialism, conservatism, fascism and communism.


A Level Government and Politics will be assessed by written AS and A2 exams at the end of each year. There is no coursework.

Future opportunities

A Level Government and Politics is an excellent preparation for a fdegree in Politics or related courses such as Philosophy and Economics.

It can also be combined with a wide range of humanities subjects including History, Law, or Journalism.
