Religious Studies GCSE at Samuel Lister Academy
At Aire Valley School, Religious Studies is a compulsory course for all students in Years 9-11. It is an academic study of religion based on a modular approach. Learn about religions such as Christianity and Islam is a fun and innovative way.
The main faiths that you will concentrate on are Christians and Muslims. There are certain things that both faiths agree on and some differences belief and opinion. You willstudy such issues as Life after Death, Abortion andconsider arguments such as Is there a God? You will also study Religion and the Environment and community cohesion.
If you like thinking outside the box and enjoy lively debates then you will really enjoy your Religious studies lessons. The lessons range through the years from 1-2 hours per week.
Religious Studies is a compulsary course but the exam that you will be entered for at GCSE level will depend on your ability within the subject. The choices are full course, short course and entry level. The amount of people being entered for the full course is growing each year.
After taking the GCSE there is a range of options for you. Many people enjoy the subject so much that they carry on to A Level where there is more in depth study of moral issues and philosophy of religion.
