Design and Technology (Graphics with Materials) at Wallington High School for Girls

Course description

If you have an interest in Design and how it is present in our everyday lives, this is the course for you. If you are fascinated by the detail, the new technologies available and how products are promoted, you will enjoy this course. An eye for design and a willingness to draw are more essential than artistic talent

Course content

AS and A2-level courses cover materials and manufacture across the very broad area of product design. You will study existing product solutions, design history, graphical communication techniques and practical techniques to realise your ideas.

Entry requirements

An A grade in GCSE Design & Technology Graphics.

Assessment

At AS and A2-level there are three coursework elements – a case study for an existing product, a creative design element and practical skills assessment plus a 1hr 30min written examination. A2 50% Coursework / 50% Examination.

Future opportunities

Careers in product design and manufacture, architecture, graphic and interior design, engineering, arts and the media, theatre and TV design and computer graphics.
