Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care at St John Fisher Catholic High School

Course description

This course provides education in Health and Social Care that forms a basis for progression to undergraduate studies and a range of careers in the health and social care sector.

 

Course content

There will be an opportunity for students to complete either the Level 3 90-credit Diploma or continue on to complete the full Diploma which will include a significant amount of work experience.

Level 3 90-credit diploma consists of four mandatory units and five optional units.  The mandatory units are:

  1. Developing effective communication in Health and Social Care
  2. Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
  3. Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care
  4. Development through the life stages

The Diploma consists of eight mandatory units and four optional units.  The mandatory units are those above plus:

  1. Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care
  2. Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
  3. Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care
  4. Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirement to study this course at Sixth Form - 4 A*- D GCSEs or equivilant, including English.  For further information see school Prospectus.  This is available on the school website www.stjohnfisherschool.org.uk

Assessment

The Level 3 Diploma is coursework based so there are no examinations.  After you have been taught how to complete the assignments you will be closely guided through the completion of drafts of all of your work.  All coursework is marked by your teachers and some moderated by the exam board.

 

The current QCF specification for Level 3 Health and Social Care could be replaced by the NQF version from September 2016. This may contain some examinable units.

Future opportunities

This qualification has been developed in the Health and Social Care sector to:

  • Provide learners with the opportunity to enter employment in the Health and Social Care sector or progress to vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Health and Social Care.
  • Give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
