Extended Project Qualification at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School
EPQ is an extended project qualification at level 3 equivalent to an A level. It enables a student to gain an A*-E grade and develop relevant skills to support the transition into A level and Higher Education studies. You will work on an independent project of your choice, supported by a member of staff, producing either an artefact, a written dissertation, an investigation or performance/event. It is an exceptional opportunity to develop your research, academic and independent learning skills to carry out an in-depth piece of work - subject to approval. All of these skills are highly valued by many universities when selecting applicants, especially Russell Group Universities. The taught element of the course include developing critical thinking, researching skills and presentation skills.
To gain entry onto the A Level Pathway students would need 5 or more B grades in their GCSE qualifications including a C grade in Maths and English Language. A Level students should chose 3 subjects and the ASDAN COPE Award.
There is no examination. The results of your project, be it an essay, an investigation write-up or the production of an artefact and a 10 minute presentation (Viva) to an audience including teacherassessors, are internally assessed and then externally moderated.
Highly valued by all Russell Group universities
Consideration of any suitable opportunities related to your project. E.g. Research projects like ‘Why do we need to remember the Holocaust?’, or ‘Is there an evolutionary explanation for Anorexia?’ or ‘Discuss the alternatives to the current voting system’; might involve arranging to meet an expert to carry out an interview, or arrange access to resources which might involve a subscription/purchase or arranging to attend a show, event, course or lecture to support an aspect of your project.
