Sociology A Level at Handsworth Wood Girls' Academy
You will learn about different theories of ideology, science and religion. You will consider the relationship between religious beliefs and social change and stability. Within your studies you will look at a range of religious organisations, including sects, cults, denominations, churches and the New Age movement and their relationship to religious and spiritual belief and practice. You will also find out about different theories of crime, deviance, social order and social control with analysis of the social distribution of crime by age, ethnicity, gender, locality and social class. Crime control, prevention and punishment along with sociological studies of suicide are topics that will provide further academicconsideration.
A grade D from the AS-Level is the minimum entry requirement for this course.
Sociology develops skills and knowledge that are applicable in all careers and can be relevant to most university courses. It has particularly strong links in Academic Research, Advertising, Law, Politics, Criminology, police, Probation, Teaching, Social Work, Youth Services, Media and Journalism.
