Course description

Why choose Physics?

A Physics qualification proves that a student can think logically, understand complex ideas and apply them to the real world, Employers actively seek out such people. For a career in Science, Medicine, Education, Business, Engineering or a host of other fields, Physics can give students a real edge.

What does the course involve?

At AS level, students will complete 3 units: ‘Mechanics’; ‘Electronics, Waves and Photons’; and ‘Practical Skills In Physics 1’.

There are another 3 units at A2 level: ‘The Newtonian World’; ‘Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics’; and ‘Practical Skills in Physics 2’.

Students should be prepared for plenty of demanding numerate work, but also be prepared to enter enthusiastically into practical work, as well as all assigned homework. The course will be demanding but very worthwhile.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B in Science and Additional Science or Grade B in GCSE Physics. GCSE Grade B in Maths and English also required. All students are expected to study A level Mathematics. Students not studying Further Mathematics will be studying the Mechanics module on a Wednesday morning.
