Art & Design Technical Diploma at Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College
The OCR Level 3 National Diploma in Art and Design is a highly practical applied learning course that is a new and exciting addition to NMBEC’s 6th Form Curriculum. Equivalent to 2 A Levels, it can be combined with A/S subjects or other level 2/3 courses as appropriate.
Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on typical work place situations within a wide Art & Design context, with a specialist mix of Art, Sculpture, Photography, Fashion/textiles and Product Design. Students should possess a high level of personal commitment and are expected to undertake coursework in their own time which complements and runs parallel to studio work.
Students will gain knowledge and understanding of materials, techniques and processes, used within Art and Design multi media practice. Projects include designing and making a range of final pieces in a variety of mediums. Students also have the opportunity to extend and enrich their knowledge through gallery, workshop, and exhibition visits.
Students must have a minimum of a GCSE grade C or equivalent in either Art, Textiles or Product (RM) Design and may be required to have a portfolio interview to verify course suitability.
Across the two years students will complete a variety of projects that will contribute to 12 units of work. There is no final examination. All units are assessed and then a final grade will be awarded of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction.
In Year 2 students will be given the opportunity to either specialise in an area of interest or keep to a broad Art & Design syllabus.
