Art and Design - Textiles AS/A Level at Prendergast - Hilly Fields College
This course is specific to Fashion Textiles or Costume Design Routes. However, The aims of Art and Design are to develop: • intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers • investigative, analytical, experimental, practical, technical and expressive skills, aesthetic understanding and critical judgement • an understanding of the interrelationships between art, craft and design processes and an awareness of the contexts in which they operate • an interest in, enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of art, craft and design • the experience of working with a broad range of media, including traditional and new media and technologies • independence of mind in relation to developing their own ideas, refining their own intentions and personal outcome • knowledge, understanding and application of art, craft, design and media and technologies in contemporary and past societies and cultures • experience of working within relevant and real frameworks and, where appropriate, make links to the creative industries • an awareness of different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art, craft and design practice.
5 A*-C grades at GCSE plus Grade C or better in Art at GCSE. Minimum of Grade C at AS level.
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as History of Art or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Art and Design, which could lead onto higher education in areas of art and design, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior Designer, Artist or fashion designer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
